About Christine
Christine is like you, first & foremost a parent.
Her youngest child has dyslexia and dysgraphia and was unable to get the intervention methods they needed through their local schools so she went back to school. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education from CSU, East Bay with a focus on nonprofits and community schools, hoping to bring targeted special education intervention and support services to her area. She then completed post-graduate certification as an Educational Therapist through UC Riverside. Christine furthered her training and education to become nationally recognized as a Professional Member of the Association of Educational Therapists (AET).
She has trained in multiple Orton-Gillingham-based reading strategies, is a Certified Wilson Reading and Spelling Provider and Credentialed Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner. She loves working with students who need help building executive function skills (and who doesn’t!?!). She loves working with students to discover their spark, that “thing” that’s easy for them to learn. “Creating positive learning opportunities with our clients, learning that is actually fun for our kids, is what this work is all about.”
In addition to her experience as an educational therapist working with students in reading intervention, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other learning differences, Christine has training and experience in parent advocacy. She was a long-time member of the leadership team of the Alameda Special Education Family Support Group as well as a Regional Lead for Decoding Dyslexia CA. She has experience assisting families as they navigate the special education process on behalf of their child and has facilitated training for parents and educators on a county and regional level through the North Regional SELPA and the Alameda County Office of Education. Her professional memberships include the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and the Association of Educational Therapists (AET).
In addition to her belief that all children can learn if we’re teaching them in the best ways that match their needs, Christine is a closet novel writer (multi-year NANOWRIMO participant!), a terribly slow knitter, a volunteer puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence and a life-long Girl Scout.
Focus: Christine works primarily with students who have Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and ADD/ADHD, building reading, writing, and executive function skills. Christine works with students on emerging skills, as well as more complex critical thinking, organizational, and writing skills involved in high school and college applications; often with the same students. In addition to working with students with language-based learning differences like Dyslexia, she works with parents to navigate the special education system and advocate for the needs of their students.
